Piccolina - What does it mean?

Piccolina is an Italian word meaning little one. Why did I choose this name and use an Italian word? Excellent question! Let's start from the beginning.

I started making jewelry as a hobby as suggested by my husband, Jackson. I was a stay at home mom at the time, and he thought learning something new would be fun for me. He said, "You know, you love jewelry so much why don't you start making it?" Light bulb!

I was too scared to use a torch at the time so I went to my local beading store and started with stringing beads. It didn't really inspire me, I enjoyed designing the piece but the stringing just BORED me. So I looked into the next level of classes, wire wrapping. Oh, how I loved it so! Twisting, wrapping, capturing beads and crystals within the wire was so much fun! It gave me a chance to design more freely and make unique pieces.

After I had made some necklaces for friends, they suggested that I should sell on Etsy and that is where Piccolina Jewelry began.

So why Italian and what little one means to me? I'm your average cultural mutt but one thing that I like to associate with is my Italian Heritage. My great grandfather was from Naples and moved to New York. I loved hearing stories about him and that side of my family. I wanted to honor my Italian roots so the search for an Italian business name started. Now, why little one? My daughter was around 3 years old at the time I started my business. Her imagination and creativity amazed me. She reminded me to make sure to hold onto your imagination and use it frequently. Her creativity inspires me and helps me keep my designs whimsical and carefree. So there you have it, the meaning behind Piccolina and why that is the name I chose.
